Honestly.

We use AI – and we say so openly.

We are not a trained team of developers. We taught ourselves technology – through trial, failure and carrying on. AI has become a tool that supports us with coding: thinking problems through, finding approaches, understanding connections that would otherwise mean long research – and anyone who has ever spent two hours deep in the Arch Linux Wiki without getting even a step closer to a solution knows exactly that kind of pain.

Whenever possible, we rely on private, locally run models. On larger coding projects, however, these still reach their limits fairly quickly.

What AI does not do here: make decisions. Set the direction. Replace what requires judgement, experience and conviction. That stays human.

We know what that means – and we say it out loud.

We stand up for digital independence, for open source, for breaking away from corporate platforms. And at the same time we use a tool developed and operated by exactly those corporations.

That is a contradiction. We are not ignoring it.

We are well aware of the problems that the development of AI systems has brought with it in recent years. Even so, we are convinced: as long as AI is used to create something or to preserve what already exists, it can be justified.

What we are watching for – and hoping for – is a shift towards open models that can be run locally. AI that no one controls except the person using it. That is where the future lies that fits what OpenVuture stands for.

Until then: honest about where we stand.

What we clearly reject, however, is AI-generated content – especially where human creativity is replaced by a machine.

An example: Vute, our mascot, was created together with a digital artist. Find out more about Vute here.

We will always give precedence to the creative spirit of people and support creative people. Because that is exactly what AI should not do: take away from people what makes them unique. It should support them – by leaving them more time and space to turn their ideas and visions into reality.

KI.
